The Government of Nunavut combines robust scientific information and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit (IQ) to form the basis for our research initiatives. The inclusion of IQ helps to provide information on polar bear abundances, movements and behaviours, and provides valuable long-term perspective on changes in populations. In collaboration with co-management partners and other jurisdictions, including Greenland and the United States, we conduct a wide range of innovative research:
- Population surveys (abundance, productivity and trend)
- Habitat use studies
- Population delineation studies
- Body condition monitoring and diet studies
- Disease and contaminant monitoring
